White Sox Look to Bounce Back in Minnesota
The Sox head to Target Field on Tuesday night for game two of this four-game set against the Twins, and honestly, we need this one. After dropping the opener in a heartbreaker, the team’s sending Davis Martin to the mound against Minnesota’s Simeon Woods Richardson. First pitch is at 7:40 p.m. ET, and you can watch on CHSN.
What We’re Up Against
Vegas has the Twins favored at -147, which puts us at +123 as the underdogs – nothing new there. The over/under sits at 9 runs, and the oddsmakers are giving Minnesota a slight edge with 53% win probability versus our 47%. Close enough to keep things interesting.
On the Mound
Davis Martin (5-9, 4.03 ERA) gets the ball for us tonight. He struggled in his last start, giving up three earned runs in just 3⅔ innings, but he’s capable of better. The Twins are throwing Simeon Woods Richardson (5-4, 4.59 ERA), who got lit up even worse last time out – five earned runs in 3⅔ innings. If Martin can locate his fastball and keep the walks down, we’ve got a real shot here.
Injury Report Blues
We’re still dealing with a brutal injury list. Luis Robert remains out with that hamstring issue, which continues to hurt our lineup. Miguel Vargas is sidelined with a hand injury, and we’re also missing Dan Altavilla, Elvis Peguero, Miguel Castro, Owen White, Drew Thorpe, Prelander Berroa, and Ky Bush. The good news? The Twins aren’t exactly healthy either, missing Christian Vázquez, Pablo López, David Festa, and others.
Reasons for Hope
Despite being underdogs again, there are some bright spots. Lenyn Sosa and Colson Montgomery have been swinging hot bats lately, and we’ve actually been covering the spread pretty well in recent games. Sure, we’re only winning 36% of games as underdogs this season, but that means we’re still capable of stealing one when nobody expects it.
The Twins’ Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach will be the main threats we need to contain, but if Martin can pitch to contact and our defense shows up, we can keep this close.
Bottom Line
It’s been a rough season, no sugarcoating that. But baseball’s funny – any given night, any team can win. Martin versus Woods Richardson feels like a coin flip, and in a tight game, we’ve shown we can compete. Time to prove the oddsmakers wrong.
Catch the game Tuesday at 7:40 p.m. ET on CHSN, or stream it on Fubo.
