Joy to the Animals in Hollywood

lilyHollywood, 04 December 2016 – Jackie the Animal Lover … oh sorry, the French Reporter, enjoyed a Sunday luncheon at the Universal City Hilton and Towers, at a fundraiser to support Actors & Others for Animals, a fantastic organization that helps pets and their owners all over the Los Angeles area.

Actors & Others for Animals’ mission is to eliminate pet overpopulation by providing free spay and neuter surgeries to economically challenged pet owners, as well as ensuring good care and protection for our animal companions and by providing referrals and financial support. The organization started their amazing work in 1971, when Actors and Others for Animals was conceived by the late actor Richard Basehart and his wife, Diana, to promote the humane treatment of animals.

Since then they have worked tirelessly to promote animal causes, achieving remarkable successes such as The Roberti Bill, which made it unlawful to publicly screen any film in which the deliberate abuse of an animal occurred, to outlawing the decompression chamber at animal shelters, as well as donating the Pet Mobile to Los Angeles to help pet owners with transport problems get proper veterinary care for their pets. Actors and Other for Animals also provide emergency assistance and care to forgotten or lost animals during some of LA’s worst human and natural disasters, such as fires and earthquakes.

At this year’s fundraiser, the Joy to the Animals luncheon, Dr. Desiree gave us yet another good reason to have a furry friend (as if we needed one) by telling us that she recommends to her patients to surround themselves with pets and animals as research shows that it actually decreases your chances of heart disease!

Among the celebrity animal lovers, Jackie made a French Connection with singer Boom Boom! “I think this organization is fantastic, it helps curb the overpopulation of the animals, and gives a voice to the animals also, that don’t have a voice. It’s always good to take care of our little friends.” We couldn’t agree more.

JoAnne Worley reiterated this by saying: “Actors & Others for Animals mainly, our main goal, is spay and neuter. We want people to be responsible pet owners and have their pets spayed or neutered. Because that leads to the overpopulation of pets that don’t have loving homes. And that’s what we all want, is for all the pets to have loving homes.”
